Scholarship Assistance Program

SKT provides scholarship assistance in the State of Ohio for therapies/activities that are not covered by insurance for a child with physical, mental or emotional disabilities.  SKT is not a disease-specific organization and applications will be considered regardless of the underlying disease, disorder or diagnosis that results in a physical, mental or emotional disability.

The committee will review only those applications that are complete.  Each application must include the following:

·         Written confirmation from the child’s physician stating that the applicant is medically capable of the service requested.

·         Denial from the child’s insurance provider either public or private or both if applicable.

·         Copy of current insurance cards both public and private.

·         An invoice from the service provider and dates of attendance.

·         Proof of enrollment in county or state school program if over 18 years of age.

·         Completed application signed by the parent or legal guardian.

Guidelines

·         Applications will be accepted for children up to and including the age of 18. If the child is still enrolled in a county or state school program he/she will be considered up to age 22.

·         Application must be complete and received at the SKT Office at least two weeks prior to each Quarterly Scholarship Review Date.

·         Applications will be accepted without regard to race, national origin, ethnic background, sex or religion. However, the child must be diagnosed as physically, mentally or emotionally disabled and meet all criteria to be considered.

·         Scholarship awards will be made only to service providers or the vendor/organization that employs the provider.

·         Scholarships are awarded for the benefit of the individual applicant NOT to the service provider and can only be used for the benefit of the individual applicant.

·         Scholarships are not intended for everyday medical expenses, medical needs, insurance premiums, prescription costs or schooling. They are intended for outside experiences and activities that enrich the life of the child.

·         SKT will consider applications based on merit and the availability of funds. Final determination of awards and the amount of award will be made by a committee.

·         No scholarship request in a calendar year will be awarded more than $1,000.00. No child requesting scholarships for additional therapy/activity will be awarded more than $2,000.00 in one calendar year.

Founded in 2001, Special Kids Therapy provides funding to special health care needs children in the State of Ohio for therapies/activities not covered by insurance.   SKT constantly strives to bring new exciting opportunities to the special health care needs child.

In 2008, through the efforts of Hancock Leadership and many generous donors, SKT opened a multi-sensory playroom.

For most children and adults, the senses naturally work together to provide fundamental awareness of their body and the surrounding world. Some children and adults have difficulty in the process.  SKT’s Playroom provides a place where anyone can feel comfortable and in control.
